Aerial Video Surveys and Mapping

POLARIS scientists continue to pioneer the use of aerial video surveys for shore-zone mapping, coastal inventories, and oil spill countermeasures planning. Low-altitude aerial video surveys and commentary have encompassed over 30,000 km of coast for shoreline sensitivity mapping and for oil spill countermeasure planning and cleanup operations with the most recent program completed in Angola. Spill response support using these methods was conducted by current POLARIS staff on multiple spills, ranging from inland spills in Montana and South America to the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
