Grounding project in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands

POLARIS provided environmental support to T&T Salvage in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, during a very successful operation refloating the 17,000 ton container ship, PAUL RUSS.

What began as a typical grounding response quickly turned into a complex situation when the initial dive survey revealed  a World War II era torpedo and other unexploded ordinance around the vessel.  The salvage operations were immediately suspended and the vessel crew was evacuated until a Navy-Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team made the initial determination that the devices did not pose a serious threat.

POLARIS conducted subsurface observations to support surface activities, including tow line configuration, which helped minimize impacts to the environment during vessel refloating. Saipan PaulRuss
