P. Doug Reimer,
P.Geo. In his twentyfive years of coastal and marine geological studies Mr. Reimer has been closely involved with marine geology and shoreline research. Mr. Reimer began his career in 1974 as a research assistant at the University of British Columbia. While associated with the university, Mr. Reimer was involved with the design and undertaking of geological investigations in several British Columbia inlets and estuaries. He assisted in the Continental Shelf Drilling Project with the Geological Survey of Canada and in data collection and analysis for environmental monitoring of tailings dispersal in Rupert Inlet B.C. for Utah Mines Limited. While employed with Woodward-Clyde Consultants, Mr. Reimer was a major contributor to the development and application of a colour videotaping system for coastal reconnaissance, inventory and environmental impact assessment in North America. Studies were undertaken in the Beaufort Sea, Amundsen Gulf and the North West Passage in the Canadian Arctic; the northern California coast, southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands along the west coast; and Newfoundland, Labrador and Nova Scotia along the east coast. In conjunction with this he implemented the use of microcomputer systems for shore-zone data logging and analysis, near-shore and offshore sediment budgets and videotape editing applications. Associated studies have provided close involvement in the development of oil spill countermeasures and response manuals for southern Vancouver Island, northeast and southeast Newfoundland, the Labrador and California coasts. He was involved with shore-zone studies of the West Coast Trail for Parks Canada; sediment budget analysis of selected beaches on Prince Edward Island for the provincial government; a spit-tidal flat system in the gulf of Alaska for the U.S. Corps of Engineers and in the southern Beaufort sea for Dome Petroleum ltd. As a private consultant, Mr. Reimer's projects included, a videotape survey of the Pacific Rim National Park for Parks Canada; the evaluation of the applicability of laser depth surveys to Canadian near shore waters for the Canadian Hydrographic Services, and an emergency Contingency Plan in the Gulf of St. Lawrence for Chevron Canada Ltd. In addition, he worked on contract to Petro-Canada Inc. and the Environmental Protection Service in connection with the development of an Aerial-Video communication system. As a marine geoscientist on staff with Dobrocky Seatech Ltd., Mr. Reimer was involved in the design, implementation and management of projects for physical shore-zone mapping. During this period he developed a computer system for recording shore-zone resource data and carried out videotape and aerial photograph interpretation of the Queen Charlotte Islands and along the Canadian Beaufort Sea coast. In addition Mr. Reimer was the lead author of a study to evaluate the physical, biological, cultural and resource data in the eastern Lancaster Sound region of the Canadian Arctic to ascertain the best location of a proposed National Marine Park. As a principal of EML Environmental Mapping, Mr. Reimer is responsible for all aspects of project design, implementation and management. EML Environmental Mapping Ltd. is a Canadian company that has conducted a wide range of environmental studies and projects since being established in 1982. Principal areas of practice are: environmental mapping, shoreline imaging, resource inventory, computer database design, and oil spill planning and research. The company has provided expertise to both industry and governments around the world. Typical clients include the Ministry's of Environment for British Columbia and Canada, US State Departments of Natural Resources and Geological Survey, the Oil and gas industry including Exxon Company USA, Esso Canada, Chevron, Petro Canada, Arco Alaska, and British Petroleum. In addition, EML has worked closely with oil spill support organisations such as Burrard Clean and Alaska Clean Seas and co-operatively with several other consulting companies in both Canada and the United States. During his career, Mr. Reimer has worked with equipment for several applications including seismic profiling, sidescan sonar, current metering, field sampling, electronic and manual positioning, SCUBA and submersible diving, field and studio videotape equipment, micro and mainframe computer systems, and a wide variety of laboratory analyses, giving him a good background in technical skills. Mr. Reimer is also a licensed pilot. |
