Jenni Nelson is a geologist/ environmental scientist with 11 years experience in oil spill response and prevention planning. She began her career as an environmental scientist with Woodward-Clyde Consultants in 1990. At that time she participated in the Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Team (SCAT) monitoring program and various beach cleaning technology studies in Prince William Sound following the EXXON VALDEZ incident. During that time, she assisted Dr. Edward Owens in the development of standardized methods for the documentation of oiled shorelines. She also analyzed and reduced field data related to the effects of geomorphologic changes on shoreline oiling, including surface and subsurface oil.
Ms. Nelson has designed and produced numerous training manuals
and materials in support of Polaris projects for government,
industry, and response organizations throughout the U.S., Canada,
South America, Africa, Australia, and Russia. Ms. Nelson has
completed the Oil Spill Management and Response course offered
by the Spill Management Response Training (SMRT) Institute, and
continues to participate in technical response training and spill
response exercises and drills. She has continued to be involved in oil spill response and research. Most recently, she has participated in the SCAT field programs following the NEW CARISSA oil spill and grounding near Coos Bay, Oregon, and the PEPCO Swanson Creek oil spill on the Patuxent River in Maryland. |
